Komphela Happy With Point Against Chiefs

Steve Komphela was pleased to see Golden Arrows secure a point against his former side Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.

Nduduzo Sibiya's first-half strike was cancelled out by Kgotso Moleko as Arrows and Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening.

“It’s a tactical game, we had a few problems we needed to sort out. One, as soon as their strikers went wide, whether it was a [Dumisani] Zuma or [Bernard] Parker we needed to control the midfield joining,” Komphela told SuperSport after the match.

“As soon as they stretch the defenders wide, the two midfielders, Philani [Zulu] or ‘Dax’ [Andriamirado Andrianarimanana] would join. They [kept] making dissecting runs behind our defence. We had to manage that. We managed it in a way we were comfortable,” he continued.

“I thought the goal we scored worked well, it got quiet, but tactical matches sometimes can be boring and very frustrating. Up until they scored, I didn’t even see how it happened, but if you find [Kgotso] Moleko there, it tells you that we were not well set. We need to go back and work on set-plays. For whatever reason, we’re just conceding on set-plays.

“A point at FNB [Stadium] we’re happy, it will add to the 32 we have and it’s 33 we’ll see home far we can go.

“It was not easy, we needed to match the diamond shape from Chiefs because if you don’t match it they will kill you. It’s frustrating because they love the momentum and their game is balanced; when they attack they have bodies inside the box and if you want to hit them on a transition you can’t do it because they are also balanced [at the back]. A nice tactical game, we needed to break that. We’ll go back and see how best we can deal with [conceding] on set-plays,” he said.
