News reaching the Siya crew is that Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela is the odds on favourite to land the Chippa United head coach job, after the crew broke the news that the coach and club are in talks.
There has been much speculation about who will take over this role following the news that Vladislav Heric will no longer be with the team in the new season.
Several coaches have been linked to the hot seat, including veteran coach Ted Dumitru, Bloemfontein Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp, Mpumalanga Black Aces' Clive Barker, and former Orlando Pirates coach, Victor Bondarenko.
High ranking officials at Chippa have made contact with Middendorp, however sources close to the German have made it clear that he is happy at Celtic and is not looking for a move away.
While, Chippa have also added Barker to their list, the crew can confirm that the coach’s contract was automatically extended after he led AmaZayoni to a top eight finish.
With Dumitru having distanced himself from the link, Komphela is the favourite to land the job.
As previously reported by the crew in the latest issue Soccer Laduma, edition 870, Komphela is still contracted to Maritzburg, however he has a buy-out clause in his contract which would allow him to join Chippa.
