Komphela Says No To DVD At Chiefs
Steve Komphela opted against bringing former Kaizer Chiefs man, David Mathebula, back to the club, despite talks taking place in August.
Mathebula has found himself way down Stuart Baxter’s pecking order of late, following the acquisition of the likes of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Cole Alexander at SuperSport United, and it is known that they had been trying to offload him.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, Komphela had the chance to bring ‘DVD’ back to Naturena as Chiefs look to turn around their poor form, however, he decided that it wouldn’t be worth the player’s while given that – like Baxter – he also couldn’t see a place for the 33-year-old.
Chiefs have now won just one of their last 16 games in all competitions as their poor start to 2016/17 continues, and it remains to be seen whether Komphela will regret the decision not to bring Mathebula into the club, especially given that SuperSport would have let him leave for free.
The player now faces over three months on the sidelines in Tshwane, after being deemed surplus to requirements, although there will no doubt be talks to get him out once the January transfer window opens.
