Barker: We Are Not A Side That Can Be Pushed Over

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker was proud of his charges' effort in their goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening.

The Western Cape outfit halted Amakhosi's winning streak in the DStv Premiership at the Dani Craven Stadium.

The draw means Stellies are still winless in their last four league matches, but Barker hailed his side's character for keeping the Soweto giants at bay.

"I think after conceding three in midweek and seven goals in the last five, we needed to tighten up and the clean sheet was definitely the target," Barker told SuperSport TV.

"I knew if we kept a clean sheet, we would have chances to win it. I think we created one or two fantastic chances after half-time. And you've got to take those chances.

"But credit must go to the team today. We showed our character, our personality, our identity. And that we're not a team that can be pushed over and that teams have to work to get a victory against us. So we're really proud of the effort. Now we just need to take our chances and show a bit of composure in front of goal and we'll win matches."

Barker was also pleased with Ashley du Preez's performance following his return from injury.

"Ja, I thought Ashley did well. He's been out for over a month. He gave us 70 minutes and did well. He brings a lot of pace and energy and it was good to have him back," he added.

"A well-earned point against a big club off the back of three wins. So I think to get a point off them was well-deserved."
