Teams: P Stars v Celtic
Date: 13 February 2013
Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Platinum Stars host Bloemfontein Celtic in a game that represents both sides’ first competitive match of the year and the recommencement of the Absa Premiership.
Whether the enforced two month lay-off to accommodate the Africa Cup of Nations has helped or hurt the two sides will be evident when the lock horns at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Results so far this season suggests that eight place Celtic will have quite a task on their hands as they travel to third-place Dikwena.
The hosts have lost only one home game this season whilst racking up a total of six on familiar turf.
The Bloemfontein-based outfit has struggled away from home this season, winning just one of their eight matches on the road.
Stars have been one of the surprise packages in the PSL during the first half of the campaign, winning the Absa Premiership Q-Innovation second quarter.
Cavin Johnson’s men may have tasted defeat in their final match before the festive break, a 2-0 loss to Moroka Swallows, but they had won nine of their previous 10 before that.
Celtic, by contrast have been patchy all season, an indifferent run of results meaning they have to settle for mid table mediocrity until they can find some kind of continuity.
Both teams have players back from the Afcon with Stars welcoming back Bafana stalwart Thuso Phala whilst Celtic skipper Thabo Nthethe returns to domestic action after being an unused substitute during the continental showpiece.
This is how they line up:
Stars: Siyabonga Mpontshane, Tshepo Gumede, Luvolwethu Mpeta, Vuyo Mere, Thuso Phala, Benson Mhlongo, Robert Ng’ambi, Solomon Mathe, Patrick Malokase, Mogakolodi Ngele, Henrico Botes.
Celtic: Patrick Tignyemb, Tsietsi Mahoa, Thabo Nthethe, Dominic Isaacs, Limbinkani Mzava, Lyle Lakay, John Arwuah, Joel Mogorosi, Kurt Lentjies, Lerato Manzini, Luyanda Bacela.
