African Nations Championship
Teams: Nigeria v Ghana
Date: 29 Janaury 2014
Venue: Free State Stadium
In the biggest match of the 2014 CAF African Nations Championship thus far, Nigeria will take on Ghana in the semifinal of the tournament at the Free State Stadium on Wednesday.
It is a clash of two African powerhouses, but without their foreign-based players in a fight to reach the final.
Nigeria have certainly been impressive in front of goal during this tournament, having found the back of the net 12 times in four matches. In defence, however, the Super Eagles have been slightly suspect having conceded eight goals.
In their quarterfinal match, Nigeria came from three goals down to beat Morocco 4-3.
Ghana, on the other hand, have the best defensive record in the competition having only conceded one goal. In attack, however, they have not been to formidable having only scored four times.
Ghana beat DR Congo 1-0 in the quarterfinals to reach this stage of the competition.
On the international stage, Nigeria have not beaten Ghana since 2006, beating them 1-0 in the Group Stage of the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The last time the two teams met in an international match was in October 2011, but no team could find a winner on that day as the game ended 0-0.
