African Nations Championship
Teams: Ethiopia v Congo-Brazzaville
Date: 17 January 2014
Venue: Free State Stadium
Ethiopia take on Congo on Friday evening in a CHAN Group C game at the Free State Stadium on Friday night, with both sides hoping for a better performance after losing their opening matches.
Ethiopia lost 2-0 to Libya in their opening match, while Congo were defeated 1-0 by Ghana, and both teams will know that another defeat will see them eliminated from the competition.
However a victory would see them just one point behind Ghana and Libya, who drew earlier in the day, with one game to play.
This is both nations’ first appearance at a CHAN finals, and both teams were hoping to make an impression at this year’s competition.
The Congo team has no fewer than ten players from AC Leopards, the winners of the 2012 CAF Confederations Cup, while Ethiopia’s squad is predominantly made up from St George and Dedebit players and features a number of players from the squad that lost to Nigeria in the World Cup play-offs.
Group C wraps up on Tuesday the 21st of January, when Ethiopia meet Ghana, and Congo take on Libya.
This is how they line-up:
