Free State Stars have sent five players packing as Steve Komphela and his team prepare for the second round of the season.
Liberian striker Herron Berrian has been shown the door, to open up a berth for former Orlando Pirates striker Fikru Lemessa, who has been signed by the club.
The 18-year-old is joined by Taonga Dondo, Benjamin van Heerden, Clement Mokgope and Luyanda Hlongwa on the list of players axed by Ea Lla Koto.
“In preparing for the second round and challenging for the league honours, the club has released five players namely Liberian-born striker Herron Berrian, former Jomo Cosmos striker Taonga Dondo, Benjamin van Heerden, Clement Mokgope and Luyanda Hlongwa. The club would like to wish the five players the best of luck in their future endeavours,” Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena told the club’s official website.
All the players joined the Bethlehem-based outfit at the beginning of the season, however the club made the decision to release them after they failed to make any significant contribution to the side.
Hlongwa has already started his search for a new club. The right-back is on trial with AmaZulu in KwaZulu-Natal.
