Stallions Deny Nigeria At The Death

Burkina Faso snatched an unlikely point when substitute Alain Traore struck at the death as they drew 1-1 with Nigeria's Super Eagles on Monday night.

Nigeria had taken the lead half-way through the first-half of their opening 2013 Africa Cup of Nations clash with the Stallions but after Efe Ambrose was sent off with 15 minutes to go, Burkina Faso snatched a share of the spoils.

The Super Eagles had the first chance 12 minutes in when Brown Ideye received the ball inside the area but he fired over before nodding wide three minutes later, instead of leaving it for the better placed Elderson Echiejile.

Burkina Faso were almost handed the lead in the 17th minute when Joseph Yobo gave possession to Jonathan Pitroipa but Wilfried Dah went on to hit the side netting.

The deadlock would finally be broken in the 23rd minute when Emenike got ahead of two defenders before pushing the ball home.

Burkina Faso responded with a free-kick in the 32nd minute but Djakaridja Kone and Aristide Bance failed to communicate and the chance was gone.

Moumoni Dagano was unable to make the most of a good chance after the break before forcing a good save from Victor Enyeama in the 63rd minute.

Ikechukwu Uche could have doubled Nigeria's lead two minutes later but sliced his shot wide and the Super Eagles would be cut down to 10 men soon after when Ambrose was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Despite this Uche had another chance six minutes later only to blast over the bar. That moment would come back to haunt them as Traore side-footed home in the dying seconds to snatch a stalemate.
