SuperSport United are hoping to bring an end to the speculation surrounding the vacant head coach position at their club by the end of next week at the latest.
After months of reports linking their former coach, Gavin Hunt, with a move to Wits, the Clever Boys finally announced his arrival last week, leaving Matsatsantsa to begin their search for a new head coach.
Stan Matthews, the club’s director of football, told the Siya crew that he was hoping to get the matter settled within the next two weeks, and that he had had several candidates come forward for the job.
Matthews said, “We’re hoping to have made a decision by the end of next week on who will take over. I’ve had a flood of applicants, although I don’t want to divulge specific names.”
However, while Matthews wouldn’t reveal any of the coaches linked with the post, the Siya crew has been informed that the local candidates are Platinum Stars’ Cavin Johnson, Steve Komphela of Free State Stars, University of Pretoria coach, Steve Barker and Mark Harrison, head coach of Chippa United.
Johnson remains favourite to land the job at Matsantsa following yesterday’s news that he had handed in his resignation at Dikwena and was currently discussing his terms of release, although it seems that SuperSport are yet to make a decision on who will steer their ship forward.
