Tinkler On PSL Refs: We Can’t Keep Our Mouths Shut
SSU Coach Eric Tinkler Has Slammed PSL Officials
Eric Tinkler says that Absa Premiership head coaches can no longer keep their mouths shut when it comes to the standard of refereeing in the country.
Both Tinkler and his counterpart, Pitso Mosimane, were unhappy with the refereeing that took place in this weekend’s Tshwane Derby, with the pair upset at the number of the decisions that were made throughout the course of the game.
Gavin Hunt, Benni McCarthy and Roger de Sa have all also commented on the quality of refereeing in recent games, and Tinkler says that enough is enough.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw in Pretoria, the SuperSport United head coach said, “It’s not that he (the referee) is one-sided. We’re both complaining. It’s about time us as coaches, we can’t just keep keeping our mouths shut. The standard (of refereeing) is really not good enough.
“It’s destroying the game, and it’s making it a bit of a mockery. It’s not that I’m saying they are biased, that’s not the case. It’s bad decisions for them, bad decisions for us, and it affects the game, it affects the momentum of the game… It’s about time that (we) as coaches start opening our mouths and making the league aware that we need to be doing something about this.”
Last week the PSL said that they had ‘written in terms of the NSL Handbook to Cape Town City and coach Mr Benni McCarthy regarding comments attributed to coach Mr McCarthy on 26 November 2017 towards match officials’.
