Sredojevic Happy To See Orlando Pirates Clinch CAF Champions League Qualification
Orlando Pirates coach, Milutin Sredojevic, credited all his staff and players after the Buccaneers qualified for next season’s CAF Champions League.
A brace from Augustine Mulenga, an own goal from Sifiso Hlanti and a penalty from Justin Shonga saw Pirates thump Wits 4-0 on Wednesday evening. It’s been six years since the Soweto giants last played in Africa’s premier competition, after ending as runners-up to Al Ahly in their last appearance.
“First of all, I want to give credit to the players, they worked very hard. They prepared themselves," Sredojevic told SuperSport after the game.
"We knew with today’s win we are collecting 52 points. And after six years, we’re entering the top-two of the PSL and qualifying for Africa.
“I want to thank the players, technical team. We have achieved a very important target. I also want to thank the players for today’s game. They followed the instructions. It’s very hard to play against Bidvest Wits.
“They’re a team who goes for percentage football, sending those long balls and crosses all the time. So you need to be ready for them.
“Once you’re limiting them, you are giving an advantage to yourselves. So there are many things we’re proud of because we scored during the critical elements of the game."
