Result: Polokwane City 1-1 AmaZulu
Date: 6 November 2013
Venue: Old Peter Mokaba Stadium
Polokwane City and AmaZulu played out to a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in their Absa Premiership match.
The visitors took the lead in the 33rd minute through Ayanda Dlamini but the hosts responded well with a second-half goal by Siphesihle Nzimande.
Both Polokwane and AmaZulu struggled to create any clear-cut goal scoring opportunities, with neither side testing their opposition goalkeeper in the first 20 minutes.
A whipped in cross by Usuthu’s Lunga Zondi in the third minute was the closest either side came for the opening period, but the ball was well held by City keeper Modiri Marumo.
The home side had the first real effort at goal on the half-hour mark through Itumeleng Motsiane, but his shot went just to the right of AmaZulu shot-stopper Aubrey Mathibe’s right post.
The opening goal however came soon after and Ayanda Dlamini put the visitors ahead with his right-footed shot in the 33rd minute giving Craig Rosslee’s men the all-important lead going into the half-time break.
Rise and Shine’s Galabgwe Moyana tried to respond for the hosts just four minutes from the end of the half when he tried to test Mathibe in the Usuthu goal, but his shot went well wide of the target.
A minute into the second period and it was Moyana again who had an opportunity but his shot this time was easily saved by Mathibe.
The Premiership new boys however did not give up and they did manage to score a crucial equaliser in the 63rd minute through Siphesihle Nzimande after being played in by Kabelo Lichaba.
Just over 10 minutes later and AmaZulu’s Njabulo Manqana had an effort at goal but his strike did not force a save out of Marumo.
The home side did try and find a winner in the final stages of this Absa Premiership clash and they came close with a Kabelo Lichaba corner, but it was well cleared by S'fiso Hlanti, keeping the scores level and the points shared.
