Vasco Fly In Front Of New Owner

Vasco da Gama shot to the top of the National First Division after beating Royal Eagles 1-0 in Parow, while Milano United, FC Cape Town, Baroka FC and Lamontville Golden Arrows all lost their one hundred percent records following draws.

Playing in front of their new owner, Mario Ferreira, Vasco were the better side from the beginning but their finishing let them down until Samuel Julies pounced with a late winner.

There were no goals between Shaun Bartlett’s Arrows and Milano United with the same applying to the clash between Baroka FC and Thanda Royal Zulu in Limpopo.

This result that means Amabhubhesi’s unbeaten run has now stretched to 17 games.

But there were also victories for Santos, Garankuwa United and Witbank Spurs.

On Friday night in Athlone, Santos moved off the foot of the log with a well-deserved 3-2 victory over struggling Maluti FET College, who like Eagles, have lost two games in a row.

The People’s Team went ahead early in the first half through a Suhayl Allie penalty then added further goals in the second half via Brian Onyango and Shaun Sopia.

Of special note was the way Maluti’s Thembinkosi Lorch scored from a set piece but questions over his club’s late arrival following an alleged flight delay look set to be investigated by the PSL.

At Pretoria’s Pilditch Stadium, United also grabbed their first win of the season with two second half goals in the space of just 6 minutes that stunned rookies, Highlands Park.

Thulani Khwinana and a David Radebe penalty ensured a smile on the face of head coach, Leslie Notsi.

Cape Town All Stars suffered a two-goal loss to Spurs at the Puma Rugby Ground, where Xoli Themba and Randy Ngobe were on target.

African Warriors picked up their first point after holding FC Cape Town to a 1-1 draw in the Free State with Bonginkosi Nxumalo netting for David Vilakazi’s outfit, while Morne Davids was African Beasts’ hero.

The two former PSL giants, Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards, produced the same score line thanks to a second half equaliser by Ezenkosi’s Brice Aka.

Maluti and Eagles are the only two outfits that remain pointless.
