South African Match Officials Assigned For CAF Duties
The South African Football Association has confirmed that the country's own match officials have been tasked with CAF Champions League semi-final duties.
PSL referee, Victor Gomes, has been tasked with officiating in the Champions League semi-final match for Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC and Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia.
Gomes is to be assisted by the Mzansi duo of Lindikhaya Bolo and Sello Moshidi in his continental duties at the match to be played at the Alexandria-Borg El Arab Stadium in Egypt on October 22.
SAFA has confirmed the latest developments regarding the match officials.
“South African referee, Victor Gomes has been tasked with officiating the crunch CAF Champions League semi-final encounter between Al Ahly SC and Etoile Sportive du Sahel set to be played at the Alexandria-Borg El Arab Stadium in Egypt on Sunday, 22 October.
“Gomes’ appointment comes (on) the back of a number of solid officiating at recent CAF competitions. The 34-year-old (official) will be accompanied by Lindikhaya Bolo and Sello Moshidi as his assistant referees who are both not new to such occasions having officiated in a number of CAF Cup competitions,” SAFA stated on their official website.
SAFA’s technical committee chairperson, Natasha Tsichlas, has wished the match officials well for the game.
“Such call-ups are not to be taken lightly as it shows the trust bestowed upon the Association. We are continuously hard at work in developing quality referees who can represent us to the world. We wish the three referees the best of luck in Egypt,” Tsichlas told SAFA’s website.
It has also been confirmed that SAFA’s football general manager, Russell Paul, has been assigned to the same match, as the general coordinator.
