Senong Reacts To Amajita Win
South Africa U20 Amajita coach Thabo Senong reacts to U20 AFCON qualifier win
Amajita coach Thabo Senong has reacted to the 3-0 victory over Mozambique in the second leg of the CAF U20 AFCON qualifier played in the North West this past weekend.
Amajita emerged 3-0 victors following a 1-1 draw played a week earlier at the Campo de Ferroviaro da Beira in Beira City.
Orlando Pirates striker Lyle Foster bagged a brace while Kaizer Chiefs’ Wiseman Meyiwa also scored to qualify the South Africans into the third round of qualifiers for the tournament.
“The conditions were more favourable for us to win in South Africa as opposed to in Mozambique,” said Senong.
“If you look at the weather conditions it was much cooler here. Also, the pitch allowed us to put the ball on the ground and play football. With the preparations we invested, we did well and played well to overcome a really good team.”
The Amajita mentor also noted that time was the biggest challenge when it comes preparing the team was time.
“This is a good team and Saturday’s victory shows what we can do if we had more sufficient time to prepare the team. For the third round of qualifiers we have to make sure that we prepare ahead of time by making the camps much earlier,” concluded Senong.
Amajita are scheduled to play Malawi over two legs as they prepare to book a berth in 2019 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger.
