Sono: Take Away The Tombstone
Jomo Sono has insisted his side are not dead just yet, after shocking Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.
Cosmos looked to defend and play for the draw for most of the game while Amakhosi continued throwing away their chances to score. This came back to haunt the hosts as Mxolisi Macuphu netted the winner for Ezenkosi in the last few minutes.
He said: "It was difficult. Coming from a 5-0 defeat and coming here and taking three points... The coffin has not yet been lowered, so they must take away their tombstone.
"They never disappoint me. They played according to instructions and according to the system. We were not in a rush. We defended well and we started the game properly."
Sono admitted it was a tough battle to keep themselves in the game, but revealed that his side counted on the Chiefs fans to turn on their own team.
He added: "We knew what to do. It was a very difficult game and they are a very very good team. It's just that they are not converting goals. That's what we bargained for.
"We knew their own fans would start attacking them if they don't score early. It's tough to play when your fans are attacking you."
The unexpected victory has lifted Cosmos out of the relegation zone. They are now three points clear of 15th position.
