A former Orlando Pirates striker’s son is looking forward to launching a career in professional football.

As reported in edition 1060 of Soccer Laduma, the son of the late Pirates striker, Lesley Manyathela, is working on launching his professional career, as confirmed by his representatives.

The player’s representatives from Rush Hour sport Management have confirmed that Koena Manyathela has attracted interest from Free State Stars.

However, it seems the prospect of joining a club in Gauteng is more realistic at this point in time, although the 17-year-old recently spent time with the Bethlehem-based club.

“Lesley Manyathela’s son was recently at Free State Stars, as the club wanted him to join their development. The boy was at the club under Themba Sithole in the development. His name is Koena Manyathela. He is a 17-year-old striker, who resembles his late father, Lesley – the Pirates legend. He is talented young boy who is capable of scoring goals. He is tall just like his father was.

“But the boy had to go back to Johannesburg for schooling purposes. He is Venda speaking and it wasn’t going to be possible for him to find a school teaching Venda there (Free State), as they teach Sotho there. We will work something out for him for the school holidays. For now, the focus for him is school,” said Mulovhedzi.

The young Manyathela looks set to follow in the footsteps of his late father, who died in a car accident in August 2003, by becoming a professional footballer.

“I discovered the boy during a local football tournament in Musina in December. He was scoring goals left, right and centre there. I had been called by his uncle Thomani Ndou to go and watch him play. I was impressed with the boy when I saw him play and that’s why I took him to Free State Stars. I know that coach Themba likes working with young players. He is good at nurturing them and making them good players. The boy is raw talent at the moment. He is tall, quick, can run and can head the boy very well,” concluded the agent.

da boy is still young.lets not put too much pressure on him.but i would luv if Mr khoza can buy him nd loan him out to Ajax.chippa or baroka.so he can fully develop cos at Bucs pressure mount everyday with every game passing.nd da boy will be a waste if not properly developed.i know Njenje is good at developing players but.with hes dad goal ratio.nd goal proned.pressure will crack him to emulate dad

@Sea_Robber1 like really now? Don't you think you are going a bit overboard about this? Pirates clearly never knew about this boy he was spotted at a tournament and the person who spotted the boy was called by a family man, they didn't call anyone from pirates so calling pirates pathetic it's rather disingenuous...
