Some key dates for the 2022/23 season appear to have been confirmed by the Premier Soccer League executive committee, with the FIFA World Cup later this year forcing the league to make some changes to the regular campaign.
A leaked document sent out to all PSL chairpersons and chief executive officers has shown that the 2022/23 season is meant to start on August 6 with the MTN8, while the DStv Premiership is set to kickoff off on August 12. The GladAfrica Championship season will start about a week later on August 20.
Due to the World Cup which is said to be played between November 21 and December 18 in Qatar, the last matches of 2022 will be played on November 6. Domestic football will then return on January 7, 2023.
PSL players who are selected to play at the World Cup will be allowed to leave their clubs any time from November 14.
As things stand, Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori may be the only player in the PSL going to the World Cup, having qualified for the competition with the Black Stars of Ghana.
The 2022/23 Premiership is expected to end on May 20, 2023 and the final of the Nedbank Cup will be played on May 27.
