Solinas Explains Where Chiefs Need To Improve

Solinas Explains Where Chiefs Need To Improve

By Soccer Laduma - Aug 07, 2018 10:22 PM

Speaking after his side’s 3-1 loss to Bidvest Wits on Tuesday night, Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has explained where his side need to improve.

Read: Solinas Remains Winless As Wits Outclass Chiefs

The defeat means Chiefs are still without a win in the 2018/19 league campaign after drawing 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening game.

Solinas confesses his side were not at their best on Tuesday night and they need to learn from their mistakes or they will be punished again.

“We conceded three goals. We lost the shape. We have to learn from this game. It’s a lesson for us,” Solinas told SuperSport.

“We started well but we conceded the big space behind the defenders. Wits exploited this space. This is the game. We need to improve in converting the chances and in defence. We created chances, but we didn’t convert them.

“Wits were very clinical. They had three chances and three goals. We need more determination into the box. We need to improve in the tactical situations.

“The team needs a lot of training sessions because they need to learn the movement, but we play every two or three days. We don’t have time for training. So we focus on things in the next game because we need a win in the next game.”

@LECIOUS You are on point! The transitional play is slowed down by players who are as fast as snails...the likes of Parker and Tshabalala should be just used sparingly, more in the last quarter of the game in consolidating shape of the game. Players with pace like Zuma, Molangoane, Zulu and Mahlasela-should compliment Khama, who is a lone player to ignite sparks upfront. You have summed it all up!

Baxter's transitional play/ approach was very effective in terms of yielding positive results........It came across as a cowardice approach to many but it won us many games........which is what the team and the fans are desperately in need of right now.......the more the team win games, the more confident players become...that's becomes a huge positive going forward...Baxter simply did that on his 1st year with Chiefs and he went on to win the league. The hunger for more started to develop....Chiefs won more trophies during that era.

My concern about the " all out attacking" approach is that it at most times leave the backline exposed ...........it requires certain mould of players who can run the whole pitch (attack and track back to defend) the entire match because opponents will sit at the back , absorb the pressure then catch you on a counter like how Wits did with the 3rd goal...........My concern is that Chiefs attacking lot (Mahlasela, Ntshangase, Billiat, Ektsien,) do not offer much defensive-wise, that will be a problem for us should we adopt this system. We will play "beautiful football" and end up losing games by a huge margin like last nyt....The system also requires a very lethal finisher ....something we do not seem to have in our squad.

Cardoso, Mathoho, Katsande , Nyawana and Parker are a disgrace to all. Bench these so-called "Expirienced" players. They are costing Kaizer chiefs dearly.

@Bojanesm I fully agree with you. I can keep Matoho but the rest must sit on the stands.

Don't shift the blame to the assistant coaches, blame Selina for the loss he's the boss and Bobby for buying players.

@LECIOUS Very True. Keeping the likes of Patrick Mapedi in the technical team was another mistake by Bobstick. He also hoped that they would appoint him on the head coach position, so how can he contribute positively in helping the new coach? Parker and Shabalala not to leave out Willard Katsande, are not doing any contribution that can lead to team to a win. We need players with pace in the midfield and they are there but kept on the bench or even left out of the top 16. Wits game was not difficult but Chiefs allowed them to shine. Shabalala was on position 10 on the line-up but once the game started, he was playing on the right yet he has cost the team many scoring opportunities by forcefully playing on the right wing. Why are the coaches allowing that?

We're told da team is going to do a complete overhaul in personnel. We lived by hope n blvd sumting gud might cum. We were also given false hope in da game against Downs on Saturday, da way they played it wz promising but yet against Wits it wz horrible

I blv dt Sir Solinas is a gud coach n can lead Chiefs to Silverware, but it sims lyk he is doing the very same mistakes Steve Cowmpela did by trying to accommodate Tshabala n Parker...They hav the experience byt they no longer hav the legs.Billiat n Castro need to b surrounded by players wth pace n skill(Mologoane,Zuma,Mahlasela ) not by Experience.

Here is the first 11 i think can do the job: Khune,Ngezana,Cardoso,Zulu/Mir wa;....Meyiwa;Ntshangase;Molon goane;Mahlasela;Ekstien;...... .Billiat and Castro(3-5-2)........then so called experience on da bench or stands.

Improve &Learning everyday? We have players which can win us matches whom he bench them. All 6 players who were on the bench should have started the game but instead prefer so called experience which cost us last season. Its high time where the coach must drop the likes of Parker,Shabba,Katsande,Mathoho and get rid of Mabedi in technical team. UNLESS IF THERE`S SOMEONE IN THE OFFICE CHOOSE FIRST ELEVEN FOR HIM THEN WE GO NOWHERE.

The guy has only been with the team for less than a month , maybe the question we should be asking is why did they take so long to appoint a coach ? changes will come but with time all we need to do is be patient .
