Past PSL Footballers Of The Season And Where They Are Now

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Percy Tau walked away with the Premier Soccer League Footballer Of The Season award last night and Soccer Laduma takes a look at the past players who scooped the accolade and where they are now.

2016/17 – Lebogang Manyama:

Manyama walked away with the Footballer of the Season award last year, after an outstanding showing during Cape Town City’s inaugural campaign. The 27-year-old subsequently made the move to Turkey, plying his trade for Konyaspor, although has been linked with a move back to Mzansi.

2015/16 – Khama Billiat:

Billiat was named the PSL Footballer of the Season after he helped Masandawana to lift the 2015/16 Absa Premiership trophy as well as the Nedbank Cup. The Zimbabwean thereafter remained on the books of Masandawana, going on to the lift the CAF Champions League trophy, CAF Super Cup and another league title. Billiat will see his stay with Sundowns come to an end on June 30, although sources have revealed that the club is eager to hold on to his services. 

2014/15 – Tefu Mashamaite

Mashamaite was crowned the 2014/15 PSL Footballer Of The Season, winning the Absa Premiership league title and MTN8 with Kaizer Chiefs in this season. The player subsequently made the move to BK Hacken in Sweden, where he returned to Mzansi a year later, joining up with SuperSport United and winning the 2017 Nedbank Cup trophy, before parting ways with the club at the end of the current season.

2013/14 – Sibusiso Vilakazi

Vilakazi was named the Footballer of the Season in the 2013/14 campaign. He joined up with Sundowns in July 2016, winning an Absa Premiership title and the CAF Super Cup.

2012/13 – Itumeleng Khune

Khune scooped the Footballer of The Season award in the 2012/13 campaign with Kaizer Chiefs, after winning the Absa Premiership title and the 2013 Nedbank Cup in the same season. The goalkeeper is still on the books of Chiefs, having won the 2014 MTN8 trophy and the 2014/15 league title since.

2009/10 – Morgan Gould (SuperSport United)

2008/9 – Teko Modise (Orlando Pirates)

2007/8 – Teko Modise (Orlando Pirates)
