In the past year, clubs in the Absa Premiership have released several players to free up space on their wage bill and Soccer Laduma takes a look at six of these players who’ve had their contracts terminated before the expiry date and who are still on the hunt for a new club.
Jayiya received his clearance from Kaizer Chiefs before the end of last season, with a year left on his contract. Siya sources indicated at the time that the player fell out of favour and needed to find game-time elsewhere. However, he is still a free agent.
Lebese’s challenges at Mamelod Sundowns were ongoing for several months as he struggled for game-time at the club. The player finally received his clearance from Sundowns on the final day of the July/August transfer window.
Keith Groeneveld: Without making a single appearance for Cape Town City’s first-team, Groeneveld was released from their books, with Siya sources indicating at the time that the technical team were not impressed with his performances in training.
Sibusiso Kumalo: Kumalo was previously going back and forth on loan at Sundowns, without being able to get his professional career properly back on track. However, on the final day of the transfer window, he had his contract mutually terminated by the club.
Letlhogonolo Mirwa: Chiefs also released Mirwa from their books without the player making a single appearance for the club. The defender is believed to still be a free agent.
Travis Graham: Although the player didn’t have his contract completely terminated, City opted against extending his deal after his short-term stay came to an end, this also after the player broke a bone in his foot.
Booysen was also released from Amakhosi with a year left on his contract, this during the club's mass exodus. However, the player is close to landing his next deal as AmaZulu FC are expected to announce his signature.
