After June 30, the number of free agents in the Premier Soccer League has increased and Soccer Laduma takes a look at the top seven most expensive players who are currently without a contract.
Maritzburg United confirmed the departure of Siyanda Xulu last month after spending three years with the Team of Choice.
The 28-year-old is rated as one of the top centre-backs in Mzansi and has also recently been on the radar of both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, who are eyeing the player as a potential addition to their squads for the new season.
According to the figures on transfermarkt.com, Xulu is currently the most expensive free agent with a market value of €750 000 (±R14.29m). However, his value took a drop due to the COVID-19 pandemic - in January this year he was valued at €950 000 (±R18.11m).
The centre-back saw his highest market value ever back in 2014 when he was on the books of Russian outfit, FK Rostov. He was worth €1.50 million (±R28.59m) at the time.
Now, it remains to be seen where Xulu will end up plying his trade next and whether or not his market value will continue to increase.
