Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Siyabonga Nkosi, has identified where the club needs to improve before next season gets underway.
Chiefs are certain to finish a second consecutive season without winning any silverware and fans are calling for changes to be made to the team. When asked for his thoughts on the issue, Nkosi has identified the team’s defence as an issue that needs to be dealt with.
"If you are a championship winning team and you’re going for the league, then you need to defend very well,” he told Soccer Laduma. “If you don’t defend well, it will be very difficult for you and Chiefs have failed to win some big games. If you look at it, there are some games that Chiefs should’ve won, but then they gave it away with some bad defending. Anywhere in the world, if you are a team that’s going to challenge for honours, you need to defend properly, and I don’t think they’ve done that very well. I don’t think they deserve to win the league because of that.”

The 35-year-old went on to say exactly which areas Chiefs need to make changes in, adding that the club needs a creative midfielder.
“Chiefs’ defence needs to be strengthened and if you look at the centre backs, I think that they actually let them down. And at the left-back, they’ve had Tsepo (Masilela) and they bring in (Sibusiso) Khumalo sometimes, but they need stability. So, the defence needs some beefing up and so does the midfield. They need a dynamic player that can provide goals and that can dictate the play.”
Do you think Chiefs’ defence is good enough?
