Former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Siphiwe Mkhonza, says that Amakhosi need to acquire more quality players if they want to move forward.
Mkhonza spoke to Soccer Laduma ahead of the Soweto Derby and bemoaned the lack of quality within the current Chiefs squad.
“I really think that the guys he (Steve Komphela) has are good, but not good enough for Kaizer Chiefs. I think he needs maybe five or six quality players for him to move forward,” said Mkhonza.
The Naturena-based outfit have acquired the likes of Camaldine Abraw, Keagan Ritchie, Siyanda Xulu, Bongani Ndulula, Lucky Baloyi, Edward Manqele and most recently William Twala in a bid to defend their league title.
The former AmaZulu man also defended Komphela and believes that most teams have figured out Chiefs’ style of play.
“My opinion is that what Stuart Baxter did is outdated now and people have figured out how Chiefs play. You know Chiefs are going to play on the break and on set-pieces.”
“Komphela is getting a lot of criticism but the root of the problem, for me, is that Kaizer Chiefs need to get him quality players,” added Mkhonza.
