Both Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs missed out on Black Leopards star Siphelele Ntshangase as the transfer window slammed shut, with the player staying put.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is hot property in South Africa at present, after an impressive spell with Lidoda Duvha over the past 18 months, and it is well known that the Clever Boys and Amakhosi were interested in bringing him on board.
However, despite submitting an original bid of around R2.5 million, and a secondary offer – which included a loan – worth upwards of R4 million, Wits were turned away by Leopards' owner David Thidiela, who was holding out for a R5 million offer.
As reported in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, there were some indications that Chiefs were set to make a last-ditch attempt to land Ntshangase before the window closed on 31 August, but the Glamour Boys' management decided to shut up shop instead.
The South African U23 man – who will now stay where he is until at least January – started Leopards' first game of the season last month when they took on AmaZulu, but was unable to help his team as they fell to a 2-1 defeat.
