Mabedi Explains Return Of Forgotten Amakhosi Duo
Sibusiso Khumalo & Edmore Chirambadare Returned For Kaizer Chiefs
Patrick Mabedi says that it was important for Kaizer Chiefs to bounce back against Maritzburg United, and has explained the return of Sibusiso Khumalo and Edmore Chirambadare.
The Glamour Boys got an important victory on Saturday as they beat Maritzburg United 2-0 to take pole position in the race for a CAF Confederation Cup spot, with Khumalo making his first appearance of the season and Chirambadare getting on the field for the first time since October.
Chiefs now know that a victory on the final day of the campaign against Ajax Cape Town will be enough to secure a CAF spot, and their coach is happy to have secured the result.
He told the club’s official website, “It’s important that we bounced back. We have been through difficult times, but everything went according to our plans today – a big thank you to the players for executing the plan. The system depends on the opponent. We thought that the 4-4-2 system could help us against Maritzburg United and it worked out nicely.
“We played back-to-back games. We decided to give some players a break. Sibusiso and Edmore did well.”
Meanwhile, on the topic of having been thrown into the deep end as interim head coach, Mabedi said, “You have to be mentally strong. However, when I was still playing and captaining the club, you have to be mentally strong as well. So I was prepared.”
“The system depends on the opponent,” he reflected. “We thought that the 4-4-2 system could help us against Maritzburg United and it worked out nicely.”
Chiefs travel to Ajax on May 12th for the last round of games of the 2017/18 season.
