Should Chiefs Extend Baxter's Deal?

Kaizer Chiefs officials have reportedly entered into talks on extending Stuart Baxter's contract as the club's head coach for a few more seasons.

The Englishman delivered a league and cup double success in his first season in charge and has produced an attractive style of play that seems to have won over the Amakhosi faithful.

Additionally, a part of his mandate when he took over at Chiefs was to implement a comprehensive youth development program at Naturena.

The club's appointment of Swedish Technical Director, Bo Augustsson, appears to be a major step in the right direction. The club is also said to be strengthening the youth structures by bringing in physios, sports scientists and dieticians.

It seems clear that the club want to develop top young players and then see them graduate to the first team, rather than relying on splashing out more cash to bring players in.

Already, there appears to be some progress in Chiefs' youth development strategy, as it was recently reported that the club's junior sides are doing well in the Soweto Football Association.

From the evidence it seems clear that Chiefs are heading in the right direction under Baxter but there were some murmours of discontent after the club's recent defeat to Orlando Pirates.

With the club implementing a progressive youth development policy based on some of Baxter's recommendations and with a Caf Champions League campaign to look forward to, it seems clear why the club appear eager to renew his deal for years to come.
