Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe has found a new home at Highlands Park, penning a short-term contract with an option to renew at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Shongwe was released by Chippa United in January to make way for restructuring at the club following the appointment of new coach Clinton Larsen and CEO Morgan Mammilla. The player was among a list of 13 casualties.
Subsequently, the Siya crew reported that Shongwe was now trying his luck at Highlands Park under the watchful eye of Owen da Gama.
It has now been revealed by the player’s agent Jazzman Mahlakgane that the midfielder is set for a fresh start with the Lions of the North.
“It is the rebirth of Jabulani Shongwe. He has signed a six-month contract with an option to renew it for one year at the end of the season,” Mahlakgane told the crew.
Shongwe, 28, is well travelled, having played for Sundowns and Wits – where he won the Absa Premiership title in 2017. He also played for Golden Arrows before joining Chippa United.
