SAMLFA Gauteng Backs Mashaba For SAFA Presidency
Shakes Mashaba Nominated To Lead SAFA
Former Bafana Bafana head coach, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, has been nominated for the role of president of the South African Football Association (SAFA).
SAFA’s presidential elections are scheduled for March 24. While some people in the local football fraternity have spoken about the possibility of the re-election of current president Danny Jordaan, the names of the other candidates have been discussed.
Former national executive committee member Nakedi Lekota and former SAFA vice-president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, politician-turned-businessman Tokyo Sexwale, former PSL match referee Ace Ncobo, as well as former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe, are some of the names mentioned.
New information reaching the Siya crew is that the South African Masters and Legends Football Association of Gauteng are supporting Mashaba for the position of SAFA presidency.
“After assessing the situation in the football fraternity regarding the scramble for the running and campaigns towards the SAFA presidency by various forums, we as SAMLFA Gauteng felt we have an ace up our sleeves in Shakes Mashaba. Looking at those that have raised their hands and have made the right noises, we believe ‘Team Shakes’ has something special to offer as our candidate has been involved in all structures of SAFA and most members of SAMLFA Gauteng being involved in the LFAs we have the perfect combination to be able to say ‘here we are’ with a candidate that will surely compete and make us and the football loving people of SA proud. With the expertise on the ground (grassroots) administratively and youth empowering together with the knowledge internationally of Shakes we have the recipe (for) success,” SAMLFA Gauteng spokesperson, Irvin Pepe Dire, confirmed.
Mashaba is currently the chairperson of SAMLFA Gauteng.
