South African midfielder Thulani Serero is waiting for news on the injury sustained to his collarbone while playing for Ajax Amsterdam in the KNVB Cup last night.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder started the game for Ajax against Volendam, although had to be substituted 40 minutes into the tie after a heavy challenge from an opponent.
Ajax’s club’s doctors did try and treat Serero on the field in order for him to continue playing although ultimately made the decision that he should be substituted and Christian Poulsen came on to replace him.
The news will no doubt come as a blow to the Bafana Bafana man, who was caught in a club versus country row earlier this month, as he looks to stake his claim for a regular place in Frank de Boer’s starting XI.

It remains to be seen what sort of spell Serero will have to spend on the sidelines, although he will be hoping that the injury is not a serious one that will keep him out for an extended period of time and that he can be ready to face Go Ahead Eagles this Saturday.
