Mamelodi Sundowns have taken their one-year option on captain, Alje Schut, extending his contract until 2015.
The 32-year-old made the move from Holland to Chloorkop last year, going on to impress in his first season with the club, and was named as their new captain at the start of their 2013/14 campaign.
Schut, who is represented by Dutch agency, Sport Promotion, was due to see his contract with Downs come to an end in June, however the Brazilians did have a one-year option on him, an option that they have decided to take.
On their website they confirmed the news, saying, “Schut’s contract was due to end in June 2014, but Sundowns exercised the option to renew his contract for a further year.”
Meanwhile, the player himself said, "Renewing my contract is a very good feeling for me because Mamelodi Sundowns has become like home for me. I also love South Africa as a country including the football in the PSL.”
The experienced centre-back has been a regular feature in Pitso Mosimane’s side for Sundowns so far this year, playing a vital role in their climb to the top of the PSL table.
