Police Give An Update On Stadium Hooliganism
SAPS Provide An Update On Moses Mabhida Stadium Violence
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that one of the suspects who was arrested regarding the hooliganism that took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium has been released from custody.
Following the nasty scenes of hooliganism that erupted at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening, as fans stormed the field of play after the Nedbank Cup semi-final match in which Kaizer Chiefs lost to Free State Stars, the SAPS confirmed to the Siya crew yesterday (Sunday) that two arrests had been made with regards to the incident.
However, it has since been confirmed that one of the people who was arrested has been released from police custody, while the other one is due to appear in court today.
“No other arrests have been made at this stage. Over the weekend, two suspects were arrested, but the other one has been released because there was nothing linking him to the case,” SAPS spokesperson Nqobile Gwala told the Siya crew.
“So now it’s only one suspect who will appear in court. He’s appearing today in court,” added Gwala.
Gwala confirmed to the Siya crew that the SAPS is continuing with the investigations, with more suspects expected to be arrested should they be found.
