SAFPU Have Their Say On Club Sales, Ask For ‘Proper Procedure’

The South African Football Players Union says that ‘proper procedure’ must be followed if there are to be clubs changing hands prior to the 2017/18 season.
With the 2016/17 campaign only just at an end, there has been plenty of talk of the sale of clubs as both Thanda Royal Zulu and Free State Stars have been mentioned with regards to AmaZulu and Royal Eagles purchasing their top-flight status.
The Siya crew reported this week that Thanda’s sale to AmaZulu had been agreed upon in principle, but still needed the PSL’s go ahead and it certainly seems possible that there will be at least one new team in the Absa Premiership who didn’t achieve promotion to get there.
SAFPU’s Media Liason Officer, Vusi Mtimani, has urged SAFA and the PSL to make sure that – if they do allow the sales to go ahead, they must do things the right way and make sure that players aren’t inconvenienced.
He told the Siya crew, "It’s high time SAFA implement and enforce Club Licensing as this will help on the issue of credible club owners. SAFA adopted Club Licensing Regulations in 2012, why haven't we implemented? Is it by default or design?
“If any change of club owners happens, players need to be guaranteed of their future or be paid what is due to them from the sales. In all of these situations, players are left wondering about their next move while others lose income or monies due to them.
“Let's just hope this time proper procedures will be followed. It's high time we treat players as workers and give them the respect they deserve in this country.”
