SAFPU Confirm Unresolved Money Dispute At Club

A DStv Premiership club could still be in hot water for the alleged failure to pay outstanding monies to players, despite claiming to have settled the payments, the Siya crew has learnt.

As reported in edition 1241 of Soccer Laduma, there have been some disgruntled former Bloemfontein Celtic players who alleged that they have still not been paid what is due to them by their new employer at Royal AM.

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit has been involved in a series of meetings in the last few days with some of the ex-Celtic players, who are unhappy about issues pertaining to their move after the sale of Celtic last month from the club’s previous owner Max Tshabalala to businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize.

Some players have alleged that they were not paid their August salaries, while others complained about the accommodation provided for them by the club in KZN, in comparison to what was offered in Mangaung when they played for Siwelele.

While Royal AM told the Siya crew in a statement that the outstanding payments have been settled, the South African Football Players Union has confirmed that there are still unresolved money issues at the club.

“There are players who have agreed to settlements that they were offered by the club and there are those who haven’t agreed to settlements. There were those players who were short paid their salaries, and we have already written to the club to demand those payments. There are players who are still waiting for their signing-on fees. Some of those signing-on fees were due on the 30th of August. The previous employer, Max (Tshabalala), paid the signing-on fees in November in 2020, although those signing-on fees had been due in August last year. Now, Royal AM have claimed that they would pay the signing-on fees in November based on the communication they got from Celtic. That’s the mistake that Royal AM is doing because the reason Max paid in November is that he was struggling financially but he communicated that with the players,” SAFPU’s Calvin Motloung told the Siya crew.

“Royal AM bought the club on the 14th of August, that’s when the deal was concluded, and they moved the club immediately. The club was supposed to then pay the players’ signing-on fees at the end of August, and instead of them addressing the players about whatever challenges that they might be having, they were so arrogant in saying that the signing-on fees are due in November while the contracts do not say that. That’s why the players decided not to go to training the other day,” said Motloung.
