The South African Football Association (SAFA) will announce Banyana Banyana's final squad that will be travelling to Namibia for the 2014 edition of the CAF African Women’s Championships (AWC), later today.
Vera Pauw led her charges to a comprehensive 2-1 victory over Cote'd I’voire in an international friendly match played at Moruleng Stadium last week Wednesday, in what was meant to be a practice game for the senior women’s national team.
Despite the victory, Pauw alluded to the fact that they would need to be more clinical in front of goal and score more goals if they are to compete at the AWC’s in a post-match interview following the game.
Banyana were also scheduled to play Zambia as their final preparation game before the tournament, however the Siya crew can report that the match has since been cancelled.
“We felt that the preparations our national team has undergone, are appropriate enough. We played against Zambia at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka back in August so there was no need to play them again,” confirmed SAFA’s Head of Communications, Dominic Chimhavi to the Siya crew.
“There will no longer be any matches for Banyana until they depart for Namibia,” he added.
