SAFA To Release Statement On Presidential Nominees?
With the South African Football Association presidential elections scheduled for 24 March 2018, the Siya crew can confirm that all the presidential candidates up for election have until Monday 26 February 2018 to be formally recognised as eligible nominees.
Sources close to SAFA have revealed that the FA is set to release a statement on the list of candidates.
The crew has reported that former Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba is also in the running for the FA’s top seat. Mashaba is being backed by the South African Masters and Legends Football Association of Gauteng.
Other nominees include former Bafana international Lucas Radebe, former national executive committee member Nakedi Lekota, and former SAFA vice-president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana. Politician-turned-businessman Tokyo Sexwale and former PSL match referee Ace Ncobo complete the list of suitors for the FA’s top chair.
With the emergence of all the nominees, the crew understands that SAFA is set to release a statement expressing its stance on the candidates and their eligibility to run for presidency ahead of the cut-off date which on the 26th of February 2018.
“Some of the people gunning for the SAFA presidency should not be doing so as they don’t qualify. This is an internal process to SAFA and therefore, only members who are currently within SAFA’s structures qualify,” said the source.
It’s understood that certain factions affiliated to SAFA are reportedly unhappy with the current administration which has resulted in Bafana failing to qualify for two World Cups since 2010.
