SAFA Send Condolences To Nigeria

The South African Football Association has sent out its condolences to the Nigerian Football Federation following the death of more than 40 people in a bomb blast during a football match in the town of Mubi, Adamawa State this past Sunday.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Maigari Amunu, President of the NFF, SAFA President Dr Jordaan said the incident was a and should be condemned the incident, which he termed “a dastardly act”.

In a statement, Jordaan said, “On behalf of the South African Football Association, I would like extend our condolences to the Nigerian Football Federation and the people of Nigeria for their loss. It is indeed shocking that people who have gathered in peace to watch a game of football should be targeted in this manner. May the families of the deceased find peace and grace in this time of sorrow."

The President also took the opportunity to join millions of people around the world in the call for a quick return of the schoolgirls that have been held hostage by Boko Haram. “We also want to pledge our solidarity with the people of Nigeria in the search for the school girls abducted by Boko Haram on 14 April, 2014. We hope and pray that the children are returned to their families safe and unharmed.

He concluded, “We wish the Nigerian people everlasting peace, prosperity and freedom from strife.”
