South African Football Association Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Mumble, has pleaded with the public not to entertain the speculation that has been circulating in the media regarding SAFA’s decision as to whom will be appointed Bafana Bafana’s new coach.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Mumble confirmed that SAFA will be gathering for their regularly scheduled National Executive Committee meeting on June 30, to discuss among many other things on the agenda the recommendations made by the Technical Committee.
“At a minimum what will take place in tomorrow’s meeting is, we will decide a process on how we are going to appoint a new coach. What I have said earlier this week to the media is that we will clearly make the decision in the month of June as to who will coach Bafana so that the coach will have three months to prepare the team for the 2015 AFCON qualifiers,” said Mumble.
“Whether the coach will be Gordon Igesund or a new person, it is something we are not going to speculate on. All the speculation that is currently out there is incorrect and we ask people to be responsible. I cannot second-guess the NEC in terms of what they are going to decide.”
“At this stage, I cannot say we are going to consider any particular coach. We are going to recommend to the NEC that we headhunt for a coach, and headhunting will include going to Gordon and asking him to stay or finding someone else if the assessment of Gordon is not what we expect it to be."
“The emphasis is 2018 (World Cup) though we do want to qualify for 2015 (AFCON). The main prize is 2018,”concluded the CEO.
