SAFA Meets With SABC Over Broadcast Situation

The Siya crew has been notified that the South African Football Association (SAFA) has been in a meeting with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

It was recently published that the SABC’s current financial woes are the threating the broadcasting of all national team fixtures with potential blackouts looming. Now Siya sources close to the FA have revealed that both the organisations are in meetings to try and resolve the matter.

“Meetings have been held and are continuous,” said a source.

"The SABC are the main broadcast holders to televise the games of the national teams but with their current financial situation, their operational capacity is compromised and thus both parties want to find a way forward,” added the source.

The SABC currently own the broadcasting rights to broadcast Bafana Bafana‚ Banyana Banyana ‚and SAB League National Championship as well as the junior national team and ABC Motsepe League fixtures.

Recently, SAFA held an event to celebrate the qualification of various national teams into a major international tournament as part of Vision 2022.  Bafana Bafana in the meantime are earmarked to play their 2019 African Nations Cup qualifying matches against Libya in September and Seychelles in October.

The crew will continue to monitor the situation closely.
