Saddam: Chiefs Fans Didn’t Understand Nkhatha’s Role

Prominent Kaizer Chiefs supporter, Saddam Maake, says there is no need for panic for the team’s league title chances, following their loss to SuperSport United.

The Amakhosi lost for the first time this season in their game against Matsatsantsa last week, which caused concerns for some fans in the team’s chase for the league title this season.

Maake explained that some of the Chiefs’ fans misunderstood Kingston Nkhatha and his role in Stuart Baxter’s team, before the Zimbabwean was signed by SuperSport United.

“I have been following the updates from the social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp that our train got stuck and all the bad things that have been said. How is the train stuck? The train if fully operational. This is the same team that went 19 league games without a loss. We went to Limpopo (for the game against SuperSport) and asked for the keys of our train from (Kingston) Nkhatha. He had the keys with him. He asked for the three points, which we gave to him because he isn’t used to losing. We got our keys and serviced our train and it is back on track. You saw how we won 4-0 in the Nedbank Cup. All the goals were scored through headers, as people saw for themselves,” said Maake.

As one of the club’s long-serving supporters, Maake says he is not worried about the impressive form of Mamelodi Sundowns at the moment.

“Ajax Cape Town are next on the agenda, as the train will be preparing to only stop at the end of the season. I hear people are talking about Sundowns and what happened last season. Sundowns used to loan players to other clubs and those players didn’t play against them. That doesn’t apply anymore. We’ve seen Sundowns lose to clubs with their own players. We saw what (Eleazar) Rodgers did to them earlier this season (Rodgers scored the winner when Platinum Stars beat Sundowns 1-0 in the Telkom Knockout in November). (Thamsanqa) Sangweni scored for Chippa United against them. So it is good when everyone is allowed to play against each other. We are not worried about what happened in Limpopo, because everybody had been waiting for the day of Chiefs’ first loss of the season. SuperSport are happy because they were the first team to beat Chiefs. We gave the key to the right person – Nkhatha. On a serious note, I saw that a number of fans didn’t understand what Nkhatha’s role was in our team. He was there to trouble the defenders and it was a bonus when he scored. They booed him, which showed that there are many people out there who don’t understand football. Nkhatha was the best striker for Chiefs, they didn’t acknowledge that,” said Maake.
