News landing on the Siya crew’s desk is that the SABC cameramen doing duty at the Chan tournament in Polokwane are threatening to down tools!
According to well-placed sources, the national broadcaster’s cameramen are complaining about the non-payment of their salaries, dating back to December, and have told the management in no uncertain terms that they will be downing tools if their grievances are not attended to sooner than later.
If the cameramen in Polokwane get to carry out their threat, that means there is a potential of a blackout for tonight’s game between Burundi and DR Congo, as well as Sunday’s quarterfinal match.
However, SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said, “I am not aware of anything like that. As far as I am concerned, the Chan tournament is on track. Most of the cameramen working at the event are freelancers, so I don’t know what they are talking about. They are not getting a salary, but get paid for work they do. There’s nothing like that, until I’m aware that something of that nature is happening.”
