He’s due to be in the running for at least one award at the end of the 2019/20 season, has reportedly attracted interest from Orlando Pirates, but what are Rushine de Reuck’s hopes for the future?
De Reuck has been a standout performer in the Absa Premiership this season, playing a huge role for Maritzburg United at the heart of Eric Tinkler’s defence as they continue to defy the odds with a remarkable campaign just under 12 months after narrowly avoiding relegation.
The 24-year-old centre back hasn’t had it easy as he made his way into the Premier Soccer League, and has come a long way from his early days growing up in-between Bonteheuwel and Bishop Lavis, and he knows that he wasn’t the most talented player that was part of the group he came up with.
In a post on his Facebook page, the talented defender said, “From Kalksteenfontein to the PSL… I hope more kids can come out of areas like mine, find motivation and run with it. I always say when I was younger, I played against many players a lot better than me, but I loved this game, always stayed faithful to it.
“(I) never took the shortcut, and see how God rewarded me… I’m so grateful for all the disappointments because now I’m stronger and I’m ready to take on anything and everything with the knowledge and wisdom I’ve been equipped with.
“There’s no substitute for hard work, talent alone is not enough.”
De Reuck is being touted as a potential Defender of the Season nominee for his efforts with the Team of Choice this season, and will also be eyeing his first Bafana Bafana call-up in 2020 once football does eventually resume once the Coronavirus pandemic has settled down.
