All is set for Rulani Mokwena to lead Chippa United in their top eight aspirations, starting with this coming weekend’s match against Bidvest Wits.
Mokwena has been unveiled as the new head coach of Chippa today (Wednesday), following the resignation of Norman Mapeza on Monday, after the Eastern Cape team’s 1-0 win against AmaZulu at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Following their stuttering start to the season, from which the team failed to win a single match in eight fixtures and were at the bottom of the log, Zimbabwean coach Norman Mapeza steered the Chilli Boys to six victories from 15 league matches at the helm.
The Port Elizabeth outfit is in 11th place on the standings, and with a chance to finish in a comfortable position in the top eight, with seven matches to go in the 2019/20 campaign.
Interestingly, Mokwena faced all the teams that Chippa are still to play in their remaining fixtures, during his tenure as the caretaker coach of Orlando Pirates.

During his Pirates tenure in matches against the aforementioned teams, Mokwena led the Soweto giants to a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows, 3-4 loss v Wits, 3-3 draw v City, 0-1 loss v Stellenbosch FC, 1-0 win v Highlands Park, 2-3 loss v Chiefs, as well as the 2-2 draw v Baroka, which turned out to be his last match in charge in December.
The Buccaneers had also lost to the Lions of the North in the MTN8, beat Stellenbosch in Telkom Knockout, and lost to Chiefs in the other match in the same competition.
