Here's a recap:
Having being sidelined while Wayne Sandilands stood between the sticks for Mamelodi Sundowns, Zambian international, Kennedy Mweene, becomes the latest casualty to being voted off the goalkeeper’s category.
Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs left back, Tsepo Masilela, who has had a rather quiet showing off late at the Naturena side, has also without no surprise being voted off.
Another Amakhosi player in George Maluleka who recently signed for Kaizer Chiefs, has not been able to command a first-team starting berth since becoming a Glamour Boy. The former Matsatsantsa man has been used sparingly in cup games instead, and this seems to have frozen out votes for him to stay on and campaign in this category.
Since his move back to SuperSport United from his loan stint at Tuks, Mame Niang has been a revelation for Matsatsantsa, and has already bagged five goals so far in the league this season. ‘Long Weekend’ is unfortunate to see his run in the striker category come to an end, more especially after he’s led Cavin Johnson’s striking role at the club.
Belgium based Bafana Bafana midfielder, Ayanda Patosi, who plies his trade for Lokeren, is not a happy man if his recent comments are anything to go by. The youngster from Khayelitsha in Cape Town, has spoken of his frustration at his club, most notably after he was left out of the squad in their 1-0 win in the Belgian Cup final last week. Ayanda has featured more from the bench for his side, and just like he wants out at Lokeren, he also sees himself out in the SA’s overseas-based player of the season category.
Wits mentor, Gavin Hunt, who has turned the Braamfontein side into a formidable side since his switch from Pretoria, is a surprise exit. His side currently sit third on the Absa Premiership table, and are mathematically still within a chance of capturing the league honours, a feat he has achieved on more than one occasion while with SuperSport United.
