Revealed: Ajax’s Multimillion-Rand Coetzee Payday
Ajax Cape Town added a hefty sum to their coffers this week following the sale of Rivaldo Coetzee to Mamelodi Sundowns, landing cash and a player in return for the talented defender.
Sundowns made a late, but successful push to bring in the Bafana Bafana international as the PSL transfer deadline came to a close, with the club just managing to finalise the deal in time before the window slammed shut.
Coetzee had been set to join Scottish giants, Glasgow Celtic until he failed a medical, however, Ajax since explained that his injury is not as bad as originally expected.
Now, after completing a move to Chloorkop, the Siya crew can confirm that the Urban Warriors picked up R10m in cash as well as Mario Booysen on a permanent three-year deal in return for selling the young starlet to Masandawana.
Coetzee has signed a long-term five-year deal with Sundowns in the form of a three-year contract with two one-year options, although it appears he will only be able to start playing for his new club around mid-October.
Sundowns had a busy transfer window after bringing in the likes of George Lebese and Oupa Manyisa – who they paid for – as well as Thokozani Sekotlong and Razak Brimah who were brought in as free agents.
