The 26-year-old has been in fine form in 2019/20, with the big Ghanaian playing a major part in the Maritzburg resurgence that has seen them go from relegation battlers last season to a team genuinely challenging for a top five spot.
Under Eric Tinkler this time around the Team of Choice have really started to shine, and Ofori’s role in the 24 games that he’s played in all competitions has not gone unnoticed – so much so that club management have constantly had to fend off questions linking him with Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.
Ofori, however, knows where his focus must be, and has spoken of the ‘togetherness’ in the side that has led to the turnaround in their fortunes, also praising the signings that were made by his club that have brought about a healthy competition for places.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Ofori said, “The togetherness has been very important… We suffered a lot last season, so this season the togetherness, the team work and the hard work has paid off for the team. We didn't start very well. But when the coach spoke to us, we listened to what he had to say and we tried to do everything possible.
“For each and every one there is good competition for places, so that makes us work hard to make the most of the chance the coach gives you… Because if you don't work hard, another player will be given the opportunity and he will deliver. So you need to push, the competition has really helped a lot.”
Ofori has kept 10 clean sheets in 22 Absa Premiership games this season, and is expected to challenge for the Goalkeeper of the Season award when things get wrapped up.
