Sought-after Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori is rated higher than a Spanish-based keeper by his former trainer.
According to Namibian legend and former goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo, Ofori is a better keeper than his countryman Brimah Razak, who had a spell with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017 before returning to Spain where he has plied his trade for the better part of his career.
Kanalelo was impressed with Ofori when he worked with him as his goalkeeper trainer at Maritzburg United.
“Razak is a good goalkeeper but he wasn’t better than Richie at that time, when they were both in the national team. Razak was just fortunate that he went to Europe early. He was in Spain but he played for teams in the second league,” said Kanalelo.
“Razak didn’t have a choice as Sundowns needed a goalkeeper and couldn’t find any in South Africa and in the neighbouring countries, and they had to find someone with bit of international experience and Razak was available. But Richie is better than Razak by far in my opinion,” Kanalelo told the Siya crew.
Since leaving Mzansi in 2018, Razak has been on the books of Spanish club Linares Deportivo, having joined them last year.
