Pieterse Looking To Do Chiefs A Favour v Sundowns
Reyaad Pieterse Is Eager For SuperSport United to Beat Mamelodi Sundowns
Reyaad Pieterse has admitted that the chance to help his old team, Kaizer Chiefs, close the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns is an added incentive in the Tshwane Derby this weekend.
Pieterse is enjoying a long run in the SuperSport United side this season following an injury to Ronwen Williams, however, results haven’t gone their way and they have gone from potential title challengers to a team not too far away from relegation.
The club has just two wins in their last 16 games in all competitions as they look to try and turn things around, and the 26-year-old is eager to bring their bad run against Masandawana to an end.
He told the Siya crew, “It’s a crucial game for us personally as a local derby, there is (much) to play for and it doesn’t get any tougher than Sundowns, either. We could cause an upset for them, and as my old club, I’ll admit that I’d like to see Chiefs win some silverware if we can’t win it ourselves, mostly for Steve Komphela because I think he deserves it.”
Meanwhile, on the topic of his game time in the 2017/18 campaign under Eric Tinkler, he said, “It’s been a bittersweet season for me this year, to be honest. Obviously I’m enjoying playing regularly, but of course, it would be better if the results were coming with it. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case so far.”
SuperSport have lost 10 of their last 12 competitive games against Sundowns, with their last victory coming via a penalty shootout in 2016, and their last win in 90 minutes going back to 2013.
