Soccer Laduma has learnt of the tragic passing of former Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United coach, Ian Palmer.
News of the 55-year-old's passing started circulating on social media on Thursday morning.
The crew reached out to the family who confirmed that Palmer had tragically succumbed to COVID-pneumonia on Thursday morning at 7am.
Palmer shot to prominence as a striker for Orlando Pirates however his career was cut short due to a kidney ailment, that catapulted the Riverlea-born star into the world of coaching.
Palmer would later take charge of the Buccaneers where he served as assistant coach at the club in 2008.
The experienced coach was well-travelled within Mzansi and took charge of teams like Maritzburg United, Chippa United and Black Leopards amongst others.
Palmer's last stint in professional coaching was in 2019 when he was in charge of GladAfrica Championship side, Richards Bay FC.
